COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford women's basketball team was eliminated from the consolation bracket of the WNIT with a 68-62 loss to Illinois State Saturday afternoon at My Town Movers Fieldhouse.
With the loss, Samford ends its season with a record of 14-11. Illinois State improves to 15-8, and the Redbirds will advance to Monday's consolation final.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samford jumped out to an early 5-2 lead with 8:22 left in the first quarter after a layup by Armstrong.
- With Samford leading, 10-6, Illinois State went on a 5-0 run to take an 11-10 lead with 5:25 left in the opening period.
- ISU held a 19-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Illinois State opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 28-18 lead with 6:49 left in the period.
- Samford cut the lead to six points at 28-22 with 4:35 left after a pair of free throws by Cournoyer.
- Samford could get no closer the rest of the second quarter, and ISU took a 39-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Illinois State opened up a 14-point lead at 44-30 with 8:08 left in the third period.
- Samford cut the lead to six points on three different occasions in the third quarter, but the Redbirds held a 55-46 lead at the end of the period.
- In the fourth quarter, Samford closed to within four points at 61-57 with 3:17 left after two free throws by Katie Allen.
- Illinois State pushed the lead back out to seven points at 66-59 with 36 seconds left.
- The Redbirds finished with the 68-62 win.
