HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After back-to-back hits in the bottom of the second, Jacksonville State would score the first run of the night on a Samford throwing error in attempts to get Karsen Mosley out at first base after she singled to shortstop. Just one play later, the Gamecocks would double their lead off another throwing error from the Bulldogs as Mosley made it home for JSU.
  • Lindsey Nelson responded for Samford in a big way in the top of third with a three-run home run over the left field fence, driving in Jordan Moore and Timberlyn Shurbutt to take a slight 3-2 lead over Jacksonville State.
  • The Bulldogs opened up the top of the fifth inning with back-to-back singles to left field which would be followed up by another single from Lindsey Nelson to score Timberlyn Shurbutt. Samford continued to push offensively, adding two additional runs with Kolby Holcombe registering an RBI single and Ally Bigham reaching on fielder's choice to drive in Nelson for a five-run lead over the Gamecocks.
  • It would be another hot start in the top of the next inning with Timberlyn Shurbutt smacking a ball to right center for a leadoff triple. Jordan Moore followed at the plate, extending Samford's lead to 7-2 after she executed a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Shurbutt.
  • Jacksonville State would not go quietly as the Gamecocks put the game back within one-run in the bottom of the seventh. Jada Terry had a sacrifice fly to center field to score Keeli Bobbitt, while Karsen Mosley tripled down the right field line to drive in three of her teammates. However, with two outs on the board and base loaded, Jordan Moore would put the game away for Samford as she snagged a line out from Bobbitt for a 7-6 Bulldog win.

IN THE CIRCLE:
  • Emily Barnett started in the circle for Samford and eventually earned her fourth save of the season after she re-entered the game in the bottom of the seventh. The right-handed pitcher allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out three batters in her 2.2 innings of work.
  • Taylor DeCelles entered the game in relief, pitching 4.0 innings for the Bulldogs, giving up no runs on three hits and recording four strikeouts after 16 batters faced.
  • Abby Martin made her first appearance in the circle this season, facing only four at bats while allowing three runs on one hit and two walks after 0.1 innings pitched.
