Bulldogs Extend Winning Streak With 6-1 Victory Over Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford men's tennis team is now 3-0 in Southern Conference play after the Bulldogs defeated the Wofford Terriers 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center.

"Today was a good battle. Both teams fought extremely hard, and I was impressed with the competitiveness across the board, from both teams," said Head Coach Rahim Esmail. "We found a way to gut it out. I am pleased that we found a way to win on certain courts, regardless of whether we played well or not. Great overall team effort today."
Samford quickly claimed the early advantage with wins at the No. 1 and 3 spots in doubles competition. Victor Chaw and Jim Hendrikx continue to lead the Bulldogs after claiming a 6-4 victory on court one over Wofford's Javi Casasolas and Callum Rendle. Fellow Samford partners, Rossouw Norval and Mohammed Ali Bellalouna, also defeated their opponents, Will Fullett and Ashe Ray, at court three by a final decision of 6-2.
The Bulldogs opened singles with a win on court six with Mohammed Ali Bellalouna locking in a straight set victory, 6-3, 6-1, over Will Fullett. This would be followed by a 6-3, 7-6 win at the No. 4 spot as Jim Hendrikx topped his opponent Diego Losada. Victor Chaw would battle Callum Rendle at the No. 2 spot, eventually taking a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory, while Tomas Santantonio also captured a three-set win on court five with a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 victory over Javi Casasolas. Eladio Fabregas would wrap up singles action with a win of his own at the No. 3 spot after he recorded a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 victory against Ashe Ray.
The Samford men's tennis team will continue on the road with its next match in Greenville, S.C. where the Bulldogs will compete against the Furman Paladins on Saturday, Apr. 3 at 9 a.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
