BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team suffered a 4-2 loss in its last midweek game of the season against the UAB Blazers on Wednesday night at the Samford Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UAB capitalized off a Samford fielding error in the top of the third inning allowing for Faith Hegh to make it back home for the Blazers for the early lead. UAB would follow this up with two more runs in the next play after Jenna Olszewski doubled down the right field line to score fellow teammates Sierra Frazier and Analyse Petree at third and second, respectively, for a 3-0 lead.
- Samford responded with its first run of the night in the bottom of the fifth with only one out on the board. Jordan Moore smacked a ball to deep left field for a double, advancing Ryan Brzozoski to third and driving in Timberlyn Shurbutt to put the score at 3-1.
- The Bulldogs put the game within one in the bottom of the next inning after Kolby Holcombe stepped up to the plate and homered over the center field fence. However, UAB wasted no time recording a home run of its own in the top of the seventh for the final run of the night to secure a 4-2 victory over the Bulldogs.
IN THE CIRCLE:
- In her 11th start, Taylor DeCelles pitched a complete game for Samford, receiving her 10th loss of the season for an overall record of 3-10. The southpaw gave up one earned run on seven hits and five walks, while striking out five Blazers at the plate after 30 batters faced.
NOTABLES:
- Freshman Jordan Moore hit her third double of the season in the designated player position to get the Bulldogs on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Moore has now made 17 appearances for Samford, recording five runs on seven hits and five RBIs.
- Sophomore catcher, Kolby Holcombe, made a statement at the plate hitting her first home run of the season and the second of her career. She now has a total of one run on nine hits, one double, and seven RBIs.

- The Bulldogs will be back at the Samford Softball Field on Saturday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. to open up their weekend series against ETSU.
