SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford women's soccer team placed six player on the All-Southern Conference teams and one on the All-Freshman team when the league released its postseason women's soccer awards Thursday afternoon.
Forward
Taylor Yount, midfielder
Alyssa Frazier, defenders
Kylie Gazza and
Lexi Orman, and goalkeeper
Morgan McAslan were all named to the first team All-SoCon team. Forward
Caroline Orman earned second team honors. Defender
Ella Simpson was named to the league's All-Freshman team.
Yount leads the team with four goals this season. She also leads the team with 29 shots, including 13 shots on goal.
Frazier netted two goals and had a team-high three assists, for a total of seven points for the season. She also shared the team lead with two game-winning goals on the season.
From her defensive position, Gazza scored three goals and tallied one assist, totaling seven points. Two of her three goals came in the last two matches, earning her Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Lexi Orman was a solid defender for the Bulldogs for a fourth-straight season. In addition to her defensive work, she netted one goal in the team's win over ETSU.
McAslan posted seven total shutouts, six solo and one shared. She saved 26 shots on the season, while allowing just four goals, accumulating a 0.35 goals against average. She was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Month for March.
Caroline Orman tallied two goals for a total of four points on the season. She netted the game-winning goal in the win over The Citadel.
Simpson scored three goals in her first collegiate season. She netted goals against Western Carolina, ETSU and Mercer.
Samford won its seventh-straight Southern Conference regular-season title, posting a record of 7-1-3 overall and 7-0-2 in SoCon play. The top-seeded Bulldogs will host fourth-seeded Mercer in the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament Friday at 2 p.m. at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
