CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford softball team brought its 2020-21 season to a close as the Bulldogs were unable to secure a SoCon Tournament bid after falling to the Chattanooga Mocs in the series finale, 6-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a quick start for the Bulldogs in the top of the first after Merritt Cahoon knocked a ball straight up the middle for her first hit of the day to score Whitney Hinton for the early 1-0 lead over the Mocs.
- The Bulldogs would then add two more runs in the top of the next inning after Ryan Brzozoski also singled up the middle with bases loaded to bring home Ansley Yantis and pinch-runner Lindsey Nelson. However, Chattanooga put the game within one-run in the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back RBI doubles down the left line from Liz Rodebaugh and Reagan Armour, respectively.
- In the next inning, Samford would be held scoreless while the Mocs officially tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the third with a solo home run from Hayleigh Weissenbach after she launched a ball over the right field fence. Chattanooga would then take its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth after Adison Keylon executed a sacrifice fly out to center field to plate Courtney Ball. This was followed by a two-run home run in the next play from Cameren Swafford to solidify Chattanooga's 6-3 victory over Samford.
IN THE CIRCLE:
- Taylor DeCelles started in the circle for the Bulldogs and allowed two earned runs on three hits in 3.0 innings of work. She registered two strikeouts for a total of 76 this season.
- Emily Barnett also pitched 3.0 innings for Samford, receiving the loss after giving up four earned runs on six hits, while striking out two Mocs at the plate after 15 batters faced.
NOTABLES:
- Ryan Brzozoski drove in two of the three runs on the day for the Bulldogs after she recorded two hits, one being a double, in her four at bats. The junior closed out her 2021 season with a .339 batting average after tallying 43 hits in 127 at bats, five doubles, and 14 RBIs.
- Sophomore Merritt Cahoon drove in her 10th run of the season in the top of the first inning. Cahoon made 34 appearances for the Samford this year, locking in five runs on 20 hits and four doubles in her 81 at bats.
