BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University Women's Soccer team fell 2-1 to Auburn University in the season-opener for both teams on Thursday, Aug. 19 at the Samford Soccer and Track Stadium. Anna Haddock's goal in the 25
th minute of the second half proved to be the game-winner for the Tigers.

- Mary Raymond's shot off a deflection found the back of the net in the third minute to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 on Auburn in the first half. Kyla Reynolds provided the assist. The season-opening goal was the third of Reynolds' career.
- Auburn tied the match on Alyssa Malonson's header in the 38th minute of the first half. The Tigers' M.E. Craven delivered the assist with a perfect strike into the box.
- The Tigers took the 2-1 lead in the 25th minute of the second half on Anna Haddock's blast to the back of the net. Marissa Arias delivered the assist.

- Samford junior keeper Morgan McAslan faced 10 shots, making five saves while allowing a pair of goals.
- Auburn goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska allowed one first half goal on three shot attempts and finished the night with four saves.
- The Tigers finished the match with 10 shots, seven on goal, with two finding the net. The Bulldogs collected seven shots with five on goal including the first goal of the year.
- Raymond led Samford with two shots on goal and the Bulldogs' first goal of the year.

- Samford and Auburn last met on Sept. 15, 2019, playing to a 3-3 draw at the Samford Soccer & Track Stadium. The Tigers lead the overall series 11-2-2 including a 5-1-1 mark in Birmingham.
