AUSTIN, TX. – Despite a strong performance on both sides of the ball, the Samford women's soccer team fell to the Texas Longhorns in a 2-1 double overtime heartbreaker Thursday Night at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.

KEY PLAYS
- Wasting no time at the start of the match, Kylie Gazza would put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 in the 4th minute after a composed finish to the back, left post off a freekick from senior Alyssa Frazier, earning her second assist of the season. Samford was awarded the set-piece opportunity after Texas's Mackenzie McFarland fouled Kyla Reynolds just outside the 18-yard box on the right side.
- The Longhorns were quick to respond, knotting the game at 1-1 at the 14:27 minute mark after a quick transition out of the back. Texas eventually found the feet of Lexi Missimo who slipped a ball behind the Samford backline, setting up Trinity Byars for an easy right-footed finish in front of goal.
- After 103 minutes of play, the Longhorns broke away from Samford's defense in the final third after a mishandled ball at midfield. Trinity Byars was quick to capitalize off the error for Texas, dribbling straight to goal down the right flank and placing the ball in the bottom right netting for a 2-1 Longhorn victory.

- The Longhorns took a 33-to-8 advantage in shots with 14 of the 33 being blocked by the Bulldogs, led by defenders Kylie Gazza and Alyssa Conarton.
- Texas recorded a game-high nine corner kicks compared to Samford's two on the night.
- Both teams combined for 29 fouls with each team receiving a yellow card.
- Morgan McAslan registered five saves after playing the entirety of the match between the posts for Samford. The senior goalkeeper now has a total of 30 saves on the season.
- Junior Kylie Gazza tallied her second goal this year, while senior Alyssa Frazier collected her second assist on the season for the Bulldogs.

The Samford women's soccer team will return to Birmingham and open up Southern Conference play against VMI on Friday, Sep. 24. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
