SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior midfielder
Alyssa Frazier and senior goalkeeper
Morgan McAslan were both honored by the Southern Conference when the league released its weekly women's soccer awards Monday afternoon.
Frazier was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, while McAslan earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. In two games last week, Samford earned a 1-0 win at Alabama and a 1-1 tie at Ole Miss.
Frazier turned in an impressive week. In the win over Alabama, she scored the lone goal in the match in the 56
th minute, lifting the Bulldogs to the victory. In the tie at Ole Miss, she assisted on
Ella Simpson's goal in the 62
nd minute to knot the score at 1-1.
McAslan shutout the University of Alabama in the Bulldogs' win, saving seven shots to keep the Crimson Tide off the scoreboard. In the Ole Miss game, McAslan tallied two saves, allowing just the one goal to the Rebels. For the week, she finished with nine saves and a 0.45 goals against average.
This week, Samford will play host to in-state rival Jacksonville State Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will be Senior Day for the Bulldogs' five seniors.
