SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford men's basketball team dropped an 87-64 decision at Wofford Wednesday evening at Richardson Indoor Stadium.
With the loss, Samford falls to 11-5 overall and 1-3 in Southern Conference play. Wofford improves to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in league games.
Samford was led in the loss by
Jaden Campbell with 16 points.
Logan Dye had 12 points, followed by
Ques Glover with 10 points.
For Wofford, B.J. Mack led the way with 18 points. Max Klesmit had 16 points. Morgan Safford and Isaiah Bigelow followed with 10 points each for the Terriers.
Wofford got off to a hot start, racing out to a 12-2 lead with 16:07 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by Klesmit. Samford fought back to cut the lead to just two points at 18-16 with 10:28 left in the first half following a three-pointer by Campbell.
The Bulldogs knotted the score at 24-24 after a three-pointer by Glover at the 8:10 mark in the first half. With the score tied at 27-27, back-to-back baskets by Wofford gave the Terriers a 32-27 lead with 5:54 to go in the opening period. Wofford pushed its lead back out to 10 points at 41-31 with 2:15 to go in the half after a three-point play by Mack. Wofford led by as many as 14 points down the stretch in the first half and the Terriers took a 45-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Samford cut the lead to five points and 47-42 with 16:25 to go following a three-pointer by Campbell. Wofford answered with a 9-0 run to take a 56-42 lead at the 12:37 mark in the second half after a three-pointer by Ryan Larson. With Wofford leading, 59-48, the Terriers went on a 9-0 run to push their lead to 20 points at 68-48 with 8:51 to go after a layup by David Applegren.
Wofford led by as many as 24 points late in the second half. The Terriers finished with an 87-64 win.
Samford will return home to host ETSU Saturday, Jan. 15. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
