GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Samford women's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit to take a 62-57 Southern Conference road win at UNC Greensboro Saturday afternoon at Fleming Gymnasium.
With the win, Samford improves to 7-10 overall and 2-1 in Southern Conference play. UNCG falls to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in league play.
"This is a tough place to play, they're a very physical team," Samford head coach
Carley Kuhns said. "We knew we needed to be tough for 40 minutes. We just stayed the course. This team is notorious for just being able to get rebounds. And so really, I think our defensive effort was big, especially in that fourth quarter and honestly just never hanging heads, just being able to continue playing, continue playing through mistakes and we had some people just step up and play and have incredible games."
Samford was led in the win by
Andrea Cournoyer, posting her first career double-double with 27 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Cournoyer also dished out five assists in the win.
Mallory Hampton scored nine points, while
Natalie Armstrong added eight points.

Hampton tied the game at 8-8 with a three-pointer with 2:17 to go in the first quarter. The score was knotted at 13-13 at the end of the first period.
