Volleyball Claims Fifth Straight with 3-1 Win Over Wofford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball Team picked up its fifth-consecutive victory with a 3-1 win against Southern Conference foe Wofford on Saturday.
 
The Bulldogs improve to 11-9 overall and 6-2 in SoCon play while Wofford falls to 12-8 overall and 4-4 in league action.
 
Kenya McQuirter led a trio of Bulldogs that tallied double-digit kills with 16. Gracie Lynn Butler smashed 11 kills with seven digs while Greer Golden posted 10 kills and a team-high three blocks.
 
Kayla Keshock dished out a team-high 23 assists to go along with six kills while freshman Samantha Horn added 18 assists. Kate Morgan registered a game-high 20 digs and Sarah Hayes Farley posted a career-best four service aces.
 
The Bulldogs rode the momentum of a 6-0 run in set one to take a 17-11 lead and ultimately claim it 25-20. Samford posted a .400 hitting percentage in the set, with McQuirter (5) and Wonus (4) combining for nine of the Bulldog's 17 kills.
 
In set two, the Bulldogs and Terriers exchanged blows until a 4-0 run by Wofford put them on top 21-17. Samford never got closer than four points away from that point out, dropping the set 25-20.
 
The Bulldogs created separation in set three after a 3-0 run put them up 14-11. Wofford fought back to trim Samford's lead to 16-15, but the Bulldogs were able to get a pair of key blocks by Golden as part of a 3-0 run to go up 19-15. From there, Samford was able to keep its distance to claim set three 25-20.
 
The Bulldogs scored the first 11 points of set four to take a commanding lead over Wofford. It was later followed by a 6-0 run to go up 20-5 before giving way to the final 25-9 tally in the set.
 
Samford finished the night hitting .281, with Butler (.321) and Golden (.381) both finishing over the .300 mark. The Bulldog defense held the Terriers to just a .131 hitting percentage.
 
The Bulldogs will return to the court on Friday, Oct. 21 for a 7:00 p.m. match with UNC Greensboro from the Pete Hanna Center.
