Samford is coming off a 55-45 offensive explosion against East Tennessee State, where the Bulldogs posted a season-best 55 points and 609 yards of total offense. Quarterback Michael Hiers was National and SoCon Offensive Player of the Week after scoring five times and totaling 492 yards.

The Bulldogs are meeting for the 16th time in the two program's history. Samford has won the last three meetings while scoring a combined 151 points during the streak.

HIERS, WILLIAMS EARN HONORS
Michael Hiers, the reigning SoCon Offensive Player of the Month, passed for a season-best 442 yards on 45-of-51 passing with four touchdowns through the air. The dual-threat also rushed for 50 yards and a score in the 55-45 victory over ETSU. The Samford signal caller had separate consecutive completion streaks of 11, 14 and 15 passes in the game, while his 45 completions are the most for an NCAA Division I quarterback this year. His 45 completions found 11 different Bulldog receivers.

Zach Williams accounted for 13 points against ETSU with two made field goals along with going a perfect 7-for-7 in point-after attempts. The Louisville, Kentucky native tied his career-long with a 42-yarder to tie the game at three in the opening quarter before booting a 32-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to push the Samford lead to 34-24 heading in the break.

STREAKING SAMFORD
Heading into The Citadel game, Samford is riding a five-game win streak, which is the longest by the Bulldogs since the 1997 team ended the season on a five-game heater. A win over the Citadel would match 1992's 7-1 start for the best start to the season since 1987 when the Bulldogs went 9-1 in the regular season.

NATIONALLY RANKED DOGS
The high-flying aerial act of Michael Hiers has the junior ranked top 10 nationally in completion percentage (74.7%/3rd), completions per game (27/4th), passing efficiency (162.3/9th), passing touchdowns (20/5th), points responsible for (126/9th) and points responsible for per game (18/9th). Emmanuel Flowers checks in sixth nationally thanks to his pair of fumble recoveries.

HATCHER CLIMBING THE WINNING CHARTS
Following the victory over ETSU, head coach Chris Hatcher improved his record to 46-37 at Samford. Hatcher currently sits one win back of Pat Sullivan (47) for most wins by a coach in program history.
