Bulldogs Down The Citadel for Third-Straight Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Samford Volleyball team notched its third-consecutive victory with a 3-1 win at the Citadel on Sunday.

The victory improves the Bulldogs' record to 9-9 overall and 4-2 in Southern Conference play. The Citadel drops to 9-10 overall and 2-4 in conference action

Lauren Deaton logged her second double-double of the weekend with a team-high 14 kills and 17 digs. Kenya McQuirter (12) and Kate Wonus (10) both also totaled double-digit kills on the day.

Samantha Horn recorded her first collegiate double-double with a 17-assist, 11-dig effort. Kayla Keshock, who split setting duties with Horn, distributed a team-high 23 assists on the afternoon while also registering five block assists.

Kate Morgan led the Bulldogs with 27 digs and four service aces while Gracie Lynn Butler added 14 digs and nine kills.

The Bulldogs opened set one with an 8-0 run, but the Citadel battled back to trim the Bulldogs' lead to 12-9. A 7-1 run soon after created enough separation for the Bulldogs to cruise to a 25-16 win in the set.

In set two, The Citadel jumped out to an 11-4 lead and then used a 6-0 run to take a 21-9 lead over the Bulldogs. Samford could not dig themselves out of the hole, falling by a score of 25-14 in the set.

After a 10-10 start to set three, Samford used a 4-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. From there, the Bulldogs rattled off a key 3-0 run to go up 22-16 and create enough space between them and the Citadel to claim the set 25-19.

The Bulldogs used a pivotal 4-0 run to go up 9-4 in set number four. The Citadel went on to trim Samford's lead to 20-17 but a 5-1 run by Samford helped them close out set four 25-18 to clinch the match.

"Winning two on the road is a tough go and to do that is a great thing for us," Head Coach Keylor Chan said. "The team competed and fought through some up and down play, but ultimately we found a way to win some critical rallies which translated into the victory."
