HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Samford University women's cross-country team placed 12^th out of 32 teams, competing against some of the top squads in the country Friday morning at John Hunt Cross Country Running Park.

"The women ran a tough race today," Samford coach Chad Balyo said. "Our goal coming in was top 10. We had some things I thought could have gone better, but that's championship season racing. Anytime you improve on your ranking coming in, it's a good day. I'm proud of the girls and look forward to what we can accomplish next."

As a team, Samford tallied 357 points, placing 12^th, with eight of the 11 teams in front of the Bulldogs coming from Power 5 conferences. This marks the second highest finish at NCAA Regionals in women's program history. Samford also bested three Power 5 schools in Miami (16^th), Georgia (19^th) and Mississippi State (21^st). Alabama won the event with 34 points, followed by Florida State with 88 points.

Individually for the Samford women, McKenzie Hogue placed 27^th out of 231 runners, running the 6K course in 20:30.80. Freshman Gabbie Hoots came in 61^st with a time of 21:19.20. Katie Strozier placed 73^rd at 21:29.40, while Harper McGowan finished 93^rd, running the course in 21:51.10. Sinkenesh Parker placed 111^th with a time of 22:00.10. Ashley Walker finished the race in 22:02.40 to place 114^th, while Ayers Leggett finished 167^th at 22:55.30.

In the men's race, freshman Andrew McGinnis placed 111^th out of 188 runners. He ran the 10K course in 32:26.50.
