Men’s Basketball Stumbles in Road Contest Against Ragin’ Cajuns

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Samford Men's Basketball team dropped to 6-5 on the season with a 75-58 road setback against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (8-1) on Saturday.  
 
Jaden Campbell led the Bulldogs with 12 points scored, converting on five of nine field goals. Jaron Rillie registered a season-high 11 points while dishing out a team-high four assists.
 
Bubba Parham accounted for nine points scored while Jermaine Marshall pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Achor Achor added six points and five rebounds.

In total, nine different Bulldogs scored points and seven accounted for a made three-point field goal. 

Both teams tallied eight points over the first three and a half minutes, but a 15-2 run by the Ragin' Cajuns over the next six and a half minutes put them up 23-12.
 
The Bulldogs chipped away at their deficit, with a Parham jumper at the 5:37 mark making it just 29-23 and a three-pointer by Campbell trimming Louisiana's lead to  33-29 with 3:20 to go in the first.
 
A Rillie three with two minutes left in the half made it 36-32 in favor of the Ragin' Cajuns before eventually giving way to the 37-32 halftime score.  
 
Louisiana outscored Samford 7-2 over the first four minutes of the second half, and from there expanded its lead with a 17-9 run to go up 61-47 at the 8:20 mark.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-9 over the final eight minutes to claim a 75-58 victory.
 
Despite shooting 46 percent (12-26) from the field and 60 percent (6-10) from three in the first half, the Bulldogs cooled off in the second half with a 34 percent (10-29) clip to finish 40 percent (22-55) for the game. Samford knocked down just two of 10 three-point shots in the second to post a rate of 40 percent (8-20) from downtown.
 
The Bulldogs took just eight free throws in the contest, knocking down six for a clip of 75 percent. Samford posted 24 points in the paint while recording 19 bench points and 12 points off turnovers.
 
The Bulldogs will take a week-long break from action before returning to the court on Saturday, Dec. 17 for a road matchup at South Carolina State at 2:00 p.m. (CST).
