SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three members of the Samford women's basketball team earned postseason honors from the Southern Conference when the league released its postseason awards Tuesday afternoon.
Junior guard
Andrea Cournoyer was named first team All-SoCon by both the coaches and the media, and she was named to the coaches' All-Defensive team. Freshman center
Sussy Ngulefac was named the league's Co-Freshman of the Year by the media, and she was named to the All-Freshman team by both the coaches and media. Ngulefac also earned third team All-SoCon honors from the media. Senior forward
Natalie Armstrong was named third team All-SoCon by the media.
Cournoyer ranks second in the Southern Conference in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game. She also leads the league in steals, averaging 2.6 per game. Cournoyer scored in double figures in 22 of the team's 26 games this season. She scored a season-high 29 points against Furman, and she posted her first career double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds at UNC Greensboro.
Ngulefac has made 63.8 percent of her shots from the floor, the highest shooting percentage in the conference. She has averaged 9.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game so far this season. She scored in double figures 15 times, including a career-high 19 points in the regular-season finale against Mercer. She posted one double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds against Chattanooga.
Despite battling injuries, Armstrong has averaged 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season. She has also registered a team-high 24 blocks this season. In the 20 games she played this season, Armstrong scored in double figures in 11 contests. She posted a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds at Mercer.
Samford will open play in the 2022 Southern Conference Tournament by taking on UNC Greensboro in Thursday's quarterfinal round. The game is set for a 12:15 p.m. (CT) start from Asheville, N.C.
