BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team and the Lions of North Alabama are meeting for the fourth time this season on Wednesday, April 27 at 5 p.m. for a midweek single game at the Samford Softball Stadium.
The Bulldogs are having their best league performance in program history with an overall record of 26-15, 11-1 (SoCon). Samford secured its third conference sweep of the season this past weekend, posting 3-0, 3-2 (9), and 4-1 wins over the Chattanooga Mocs. Over the three contests, the Bulldogs accumulated 10 runs on 19 hits, five of which were doubles and two home runs. Sophomore
Ansley Yantis led the way at the plate, going 4-for-8 on the weekend for a team-high .500 batting average.
North Alabama continues to see success out on the diamond with an overall record of 32-13 on its season. The Lions also hold an 11-7 record in the Atlantic Sun Conference with their most recent series win coming against Jacksonville State. UNA captured the early doubleheader sweep with 9-3 and 7-2 wins before falling to the Gamecocks 11-5 in game three. North Alabama is led offensively by sophomore Emma Broadfoot who has started in all 45 games for the Lions. The Danville, Ala., native holds a .366 clip after 48 hits in 131 at bats while registering 27 runs, 13 doubles, five home runs, and 43 RBIs.
BY THE NUMBERS:
After 41 contests, Samford is hitting .272 as a team with 22 home runs, 171 runs scored on 304 hits and 148 RBIs. The team is slugging .380, holds a .343 on-base clip and has swiped 43 bases on 51 attempts.

SERIES HISTORY:
- North Alabama slightly leads the all-time series over Samford, 5-4-0, with a 3-0 record over the Bulldogs this season alone. The two teams last met for a doubleheader in March with the Lions claiming 8-6 and 3-2 victories on their home field in Florence, Alabama.
BULLDOGS TO WATCH:
- Freshman Gwynnie Hornibrook found her fourth home run of the season in Samford's 4-1 victory over Chattanooga to close out the series. The designated hitter went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove two runs in for a total of 14 RBIs on the year. Hornibrook holds a current .280 batting average after firing off30 hits in 107 at bats for the Bulldogs.
- Freshman McKenzie Newcomb earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season after her performance in the circle against Chattanooga. The Meridianville, Ala., native allowed just one run on 13 hits in her 14.0 innings of work, while registering nine strikeouts for two wins out of the three-game series for an overall record of 18-7.
