SAMFORD VS MURRAY STATE GAME NOTES (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University soccer team will play host to Murray State Thursday night and 12
th-ranked Ole Miss Sunday afternoon, for the team's first two home games of the 2022 season at Shauna Yelton Field.
Samford and Murray State are meeting for the 10th time, with Samford holding a 6-2-1 advantage in the series. The teams last met on Aug. 25, 2019, with the Racers taking a 2-0 win at Samford. The programs were co-members of the Ohio Valley Conference from 2003 through 2007. Samford and Ole Miss have met three previous times, with the Rebels holding a 2-0-1 series lead. The teams last met on Sept. 5, 2021, with the teams playing to a 1-1 draw in Oxford, Miss.
The Bulldogs, who have won the last eight-straight Southern Conference regular season championships, enter Thursday night's game with a mark of 2-0. Last week, Samford opened the season with wins at Jacksonville State (2-0) and Rice (1-0). In the win at Rice,

Kylie Gazza was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. In two games last week, she was part of a back line that posted two shutouts and she even scored a goal in the win at Jacksonville State.
Murray State is currently 0-2 on the young season. The Racers dropped a 2-1 decision at Louisiana Tech, and then fell at home to Georgia State, 2-0. Hailey Cole scored MSU's lone goal so far in the loss to Louisiana Tech. Chloe Barnthouse and Sydney Etter both assisted on the goal. Murray State was picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll. This is MSU's first season in the MVC, as the Racers finished fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference last season.
Ole Miss has a mark of 2-0 so far this season. The Rebels have claimed a 5-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana and a 3-0 win at 22
nd-ranked Memphis. Mo O'Connor has led the Rebels so far with a goal and two assists for a total of four points. Ole Miss was picked to finish seventh in the SEC's preseason poll.
Thursday night's game against Murray State is set for a 6 p.m. start, while Sunday's contest against Ole Miss will begin at 2 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. Admission to both games is free.
