BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team played host to the 12^th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels Sunday afternoon at Shauna Yelton Field, playing the Rebels to a 0-0 draw.
 
With the tie, Samford is now 3-0-1 on the season. Ole Miss has an identical record of 3-0-1. Samford head coach Todd Yelton said he was pleased with his team's performance.
 
"I don't know if there is a lot we can improve on from that game, to be honest," Yelton said. "That's the 12^th-ranked team in the country and we had them on the ropes. We had a penalty there to win it, and I know Kylie (Gazza) feels the weight of that, but there's no way it's 0-0 if Kylie's not at center back for us. I'm super proud of our kids. That's a really good team. We've got to just keep getting better as we go."
 
Samford had several chances to score, but the Bulldogs were unable to convert. The best chance came early in the second half when Ole Miss goalkeeper Ashley Orkus committed a foul in the box, receiving a yellow card in the process. The penalty kick by Samford's Kylie Gazza missed left, ending the threat.
 
As a team, Samford outshot Ole Miss, 7-6. The Bulldogs had four shots on goal, to two for the Rebels. Samford tallied four corner kicks to six for Ole Miss.
 
Samford senior goalkeeper Morgan McAslan, an Ole Miss transfer, had two saves in posting her third shutout of the season. Gazza and Kristen Goodroe shared the team lead in shots with two each.
 
The Bulldogs will host Army on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 12 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. Admission to the game is free.
