BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 25
th-ranked Samford soccer team played the Army Black Knights to a 1-1 tie Thursday afternoon at Shauna Yelton Field.
With the tie, Samford moves to 3-0-2, while Army is now 1-2-2.
The teams played through a scoreless first half. Army broke on top first when Elisa Urkov scored a goal in the 74
th minute of the contest. Samford tied the game when
Ella Simpson scored off an assist from
Nikki Bario in the 85
th minute to knot the score at 1-1.
As a team, Samford outshot Army, 25-7. The Bulldogs had nine shots on goal, to three for the Black Knights. Samford had seven corner kicks, while Army had five.
Samford will take on West Virginia Sunday in Auburn, Ala. The game is set for a 2:30 p.m.
