SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior forward
Jermaine Marshall was named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.
Marshall averaged 15.5 points and 12 rebounds per game over a pair of SoCon victories for the Bulldogs last week. He logged a 17-point, 12-rebound effort in the Bulldogs' 69-59 win at ETSU on Jan. 18 and tallied 14 points and 12 boards in the Bulldogs' 74-65 home victory against Western Carolina on Jan. 21. Marshall also led the Bulldogs with 10 made field goals last week, shooting 45 percent from the floor and 56 percent (5-9) from three.
The Brighton, Ala. native is averaging 14.6 points per game in conference match-ups and currently ranks second in the league with an average of 8.9 rebounds per game against SoCon opponents.
Marshall has posted four double-doubles in conference games this season and ranks fifth in the SoCon with an average of 7.1 rebounds per game in 2022-23.
The Bulldogs currently sit atop the Southern Conference Standings with a perfect 8-0 record against league opponents, marking their best start to conference play since joining the SoCon in 2008.
Samford will play their first of three-straight road games on Wednesday, Jan. 25 against Furman at 6:00 p.m. (CST).
