Volleyball Sweeps Chattanooga on Dig Orange Night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team celebrated its annual Dig Orange Match with a 3-0 sweep over Chattanooga in Southern Conference action on Friday evening.

With the win, the Bulldogs bolster their record to 9-11 overall and 4-4 in SoCon play. The Mocs drop to 15-7 overall and 3-4 in conference action.

Gracie Lynn Butler (13) and Kaleigh Meritt (12) combined for 25 of the Bulldogs' 43 kills on the night, with Butler also posting a team-high 16 digs. Ally Cordes and Greer Golden both added seven kills and a pair of block assists each, with Golden hitting .462 for the night.

Kayla Keshock led the squad with 22 assists and four service aces while Lexi Thatcher posted 19 assists.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-2 lead in set one following a kill by Butler and extended their lead with a 4-0 run that put them up 12-5. The Mocs trimmed their deficit to just 13-11 but Samford took control of the set by scoring eight of the next nine points to take a 21-12 lead. From there, the Bulldogs secured a 25-16 set-one win.

Samford created separation in set two with a 4-0 run that gave them a 14-7 lead. The Bulldogs rattled off two more key 3-0 runs in the set, with the latter putting them up 23-14 before giving way to a 25-16 win in the second set.

The two teams swapped points in set three until a 3-0 run by the Bulldogs gave them a 17-13 lead. Samford created crucial separation with a 4-0 run that put them up 22-18 en route to clinching the match with a 25-21 win.

Samford hit .279 for the night while holding the Mocs to a .096 attack percentage and just 26 kills over three sets.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 20 when they hit the road to take on The Citadel at 5:00 p.m. (CST) from Charleston, S.C.
