GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Samford University soccer team battled the Furman Paladins to a 1-1 tie in Southern Conference action Thursday night at Stone Stadium.
With the tie, Samford moved to 7-3-4 overall and 3-1-1 in SoCon play. Furman's record moved to 5-3-5 overall and 1-0-4 in league action.
Furman's Shania Diaz got the scoring started with her goal off an assist from Ellie Herrmann in the 30
th minute for a 1-0 Paladin lead. Samford knotted the score when
Maison Wells netted her first goal of the season off
Brigid McElderry's first assist of the season to make the score 1-1.
Mary Raymond and
Kylie Gazza led Samford with three shots each in the contest. Samford goalkeeper
Zoe Clevely had three saves, while Furman's Addison Corn saved six shots, with both allowing one goal. As a team, Samford outshot Furman, 18-7. The Bulldogs had eight corner kicks, to three for Furman. Each team committed 16 fouls in the game.
