Volleyball Set to Host Western Carolina and ETSU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team will play host to Western Carolina on Friday and East Tennessee State on Saturday in a pair of pivotal Southern Conference matches.

Friday's contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. (CST) and Saturday's at 5:00 p.m. (CST). "Camp Night" will take place on Friday evening, with free admission for all past Samford Volleyball Camp attendees wearing their camp shirts. Past campers can also attend a pregame chalk talk with Head Coach Keylor Chan by RSVP'ing at the following link.

Samford Volleyball (6-10, 1-3 SoCon) dropped both of its Southern Conference contests this past weekend, falling 3-0 at Wofford and 3-2 at Furman.

Junior Gracie Lynn Butler led the Bulldog attack with 39 kills over the weekend, including 25 against Furman on Saturday. Kaleigh Meritt added 23 kills, with 14 coming against the Paladins.

Butler comes into the week ranking sixth in the country with a total of 276 kills and 4.76 kills per set, with the latter leading the SoCon.

Junior libero Kate Morgan has spearheaded the Bulldogs' defensive efforts, coming into the week ranking fifth in the conference with 223 total digs. Freshman Lexi Thatcher currently ranks second in the SoCon with an average of 9.86 assists per set.

Samford posted a .778 winning percentage in October of 2022, going 7-2 in the month to help them finish second in the SoCon Regular-Season Standings.

The Bulldogs hold a 30-9 series advantage over Western Carolina, with wins in 12 of their last 14 meetings. Samford most recently knocked off the Catamounts in a five-set thriller in the SoCon semifinals in 2022.

Samford trails ETSU 12-11 in 23 total meetings between the two institutions, with the Bucs winning both matches last season. The Bulldogs won six of the previous seven matches before the 2022 campaign.
