Ngulefac’s Career-Night Pushes Samford Past UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Paced by a career-high 22 points from Sussy Ngulefac, Samford escaped with a 75-68 road victory at the UNCG Spartans on Thursday evening. 
 
With the win, Samford moves to 12-11 on the year and improves to 6-2 in Southern Conference with the regular season sweep of UNCG. The Spartans fall to 10-12 and 3-5. 
 
To go along with her game-high 22 points, Ngulefac grabbed seven rebounds and shot 10-of-12 from the floor. The sophomore center shined in the fourth quarter scoring nine of her 22 points in the final frame. 
 
As a team, Samford hit 11 three-pointers on the night from seven different Bulldogs. 
 
Leading the aerial bombardment of Greensboro, Carly Heidger hit a trio of treys along the way to finish the game with 16. Heidger is 19.5 points per game over her first two starts in the Bulldog lineup.
 
Masyn Marchbanks also connected from deep three times on the night. The freshman had 12 on the night including sinking three pivotal free throws with under a minute left in regulation to seal the Samford victory. 
 
Before leaving the game in the fourth quarter, Andrea Bailey scored 13 points and had a team-leading eight rebounds and seven assists. 
 
Kathleen Wheeler led all Bulldog reserves with six points, while the backcourt duo of Alyssa Tarpley and Mattie Hatcher each connected from distance for their three points. 
 
The offensive onslaught came early and often for the Bulldogs as Samford outscored UNCG 21-13 in the opening quarter of play. 
 
A 14-2 run in the second quarter nudged the Bulldog lead to 15. Back-to-back threes from Marchbanks combined with a Ngulefac layup with 12 ticks remaining in the first half gave Samford a 45-31 lead heading into the locker room at the half. 
 
Heidger made a three to give the visiting Bulldogs their largest lead of the night at 54-38 with 6:52 remaining in the third.
 
UNCG tied the game at 67-67 with just under five minutes left in regulation before Wheeler sank a three to put Samford up for good. 
 
The tandem of Ngulefac and Marchbanks scored the final eight Bulldog points on the night to preserve the 75-68 Samford win. 
 
Looking to stay perfect on the Carolina road swing, The Bulldogs head to Western Carolina on Saturday. The tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
