Bulldogs Drop Midweek Contest To No. 14 Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Softball team fell on Tuesday by a score of 6-2 to the No. 14 Alabama Crimson Tide to close out a four-game homestand.

Samford drops to 17-23 on the season and 2-6 against in-state foes. Alabama moves to 29-12 overall.

Despite battling for her fourth complete game of the season, reigning Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week Jordyn Partain was tagged with the loss in the circle for the Bulldogs. Partain allowed only two earned runs in her start with one strikeout.

The dynamic pairing of Logan Champion and Grier Bruce stayed hot on Tuesday by driving in both Samford runs on the evening. Champion had a game-high two hits and scored once to go along with her 21st RBI of the season. Bruce had a hit and walked once.

McKayla Cothran batted leadoff for the first time this season and had a hit while scoring once. Lindsey Nelson accounted for the other Samford base knock of the contest.

Alabama opened the scoring by plating a pair in the top of the first to take a 2-0 advantage before Samford came up to bat in the bottom of the first.

A leadoff bunt single by Cothran set up a Champion RBI single two batters later to cut the deficit in half at 2-1 with one inning in the books.

The Crimson Tide answered back almost immediately by scoring four runs in the top of the second with two outs.

After allowing six runs over the opening two innings, Partain settled in and allowed five hits and no over the final five innings.

Back-to-back doubles from Champion and Bruce led to the final Samford run of the game in the fifth to make the final 6-2. Champion scored the Bruce double for the sophomore's team-best 28th RBI of the year.
