AUBURN, Ala. – The Samford University soccer team opened the 2023 season with a 0-0 tie at Auburn Thursday evening at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
This marks the second-straight meeting in the series to end in a tie. Last season, the Bulldogs and Tigers played to a 1-1 draw at Shauna Yelton Field.
Samford goalkeeper
Zoe Clevely, in her first start for the Bulldogs, saved five shots to keep the Tigers from scoring. As a team, Auburn had 14 total shots, with five coming on goal, to Samford's three total shots. Auburn had five corner kicks, compared to two for the Bulldogs.
Samford's
Whitaker Buchanan led the way with two shots, while
Layton Glisson, an Auburn transfer, had one. For the Tigers, Carly Thatcher led the team with four shots, while Olivia Woodson fired three shots.
Samford will play its home opener when the Bulldogs host DePaul Sunday at 1 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. Admission to all home soccer games is FREE.
