BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over North Alabama Friday at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the win, Samford improved to 1-3 on the young season. North Alabama fell to 0-2 with the loss.
The match was decided on the No. 6 singles court when Samford's
Sebastian Harrison defeated Birtan Duran, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5, to give Samford the 4-3 victory.
In doubles, Samford's
Sandeep Mohandoss and
Santiago Arredondo defeated Duran and Alberto Altur, 6-4, on the No. 1 court. North Alabama, however, won on the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts to secure the first point of the match.
Samford earned singles wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3. On the No. 1 court, Mohandoss defeated Lachlan Brain, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. At No. 2 singles,
Darcy Nicholls earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Izan Orgiles. At the No. 3 position,
Maksim Bogdanovich defeated Altur, 6-4, 6-1. North Alabama took the singles matches at No. 4 and No. 5 to tie the match at 3-3, with Harrison's win at No. 6 singles deciding the match.
Samford will host Troy on Sunday, Jan. 28. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
