JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Samford senior forward
Layton Glisson scored a goal in the 88th minute to tie the game in an eventual 2-2 draw for the Bulldog soccer team at ETSU Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
With the result, Samford's record moved to 8-6-3 overall and 5-1-2 in Southern Conference play. ETSU is now 3-7-4 overall and 2-3-3 in league play.
ETSU started the scoring when Grace Eatz netted a goal in the 10
th minute off assists from Sadie Commerford and Natalie Capannelli for a 1-0 Buc lead. The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the 70th minute when
Whitaker Buchanan scored on a penalty kick to knot the score at 1-1.
The Bucs took the lead again in the 77
th minute when Eatz scored again, this time off an assist from Georgia Shields for a 2-1 ETSU lead. The Bucs looked like they were heading towards the victory until Glisson scored off an assist from
Fleming Dean in the 88
th minute to tie the score once again at 2-2.
As a team, Samford took nine shots in the game, compared to seven for ETSU. Seven of Samford's shots were on goal, while ETSU had four shots on goal. The Bulldogs had four corner kicks, to none for the Bucs.
Samford will wrap up its regular season by playing host to UNC Greensboro on Sunday, Oct. 27. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start from Shuana Yelton Field.
