TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Samford junior center
Emily Bowman scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 101-68 loss at Florida State Thursday evening at the Tucker Center.
Samford fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss. Florida State improved its record to 3-1 with the win.
Bowman has now had three double-doubles in the first four games of the season.
Sadie Stetson and
Alonya Waldon added 10 points each for Samford.
For FSU, Makayla Timpson scored 38 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Sydney Bowles and Carla Viegas scored 17 points apiece for the Seminoles.
Florida State jumped out to a 16-5 lead with 4:21 left in the first quarter after a layup by Timpson. Samford cut the lead to 18-11 at the 2:45 mark in the first period following a pair of free throws by
Claire Johnson. FSU closed the quarter on a 15-4 run to push its lead to 33-15 at the end of the first quarter.
The Seminoles pushed their lead to 23 points at 42-19 with 7:33 to go in the second period after a three-pointer by O'Mariah Gordon. Florida State took a 55-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, FSU pushed its lead out to 31 points at 67-36 at the 5:28 mark in the period after a layup by Raiane Dos Santos. Samford fought back to cut the lead to 21 points at 69-48 with 3:05 to go in the third quarter following a layup by Johnson. FSU led, 75-53, at the end of the third period.
Florida State maintained at least a 20-point lead throughout the fourth period. The Seminoles led by as many as 35 points down the stretch and FSU finished with a 101-68 win.
Samford will play its home opener for the 2024-25 season when the Bulldogs play host to Fisk on Sunday. The game is set for a 5 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
