Bulldog Women Take Second While Men Finish Fourth at SoCon Championship

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Samford men's and women's cross country teams competed for a conference championship this morning at the Southern Conference Champion meet. The Bulldogs women's team captured a runner-up finish while the men's team took fourth place.
The Samford women's team finished their 5k run with 50 points, 31 points behind heavily favored and No. 20 ranked Furman and 31 points ahead of third-place Chattanooga for a comfortable second-place team finish.
The Bulldogs were led by the duo of Adeline Haisch and Sinkenesh Parker who finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place. Edie Smith earned a tenth-place finish with her career-best 5k time while teammate Katie Keller took 12th. Freshman Felicity Hamilton ran a personal best to a 16th-place result to round out the counted scores for the Dogs. Macie Pfeuffer and Isabella Edwards finished in the top 35, while Brenna Beucler came in 64th in the 84 competitor race.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs edged out Chattanooga for a fourth-place team finish in the 8k race. The Paladins topped the men's race to earn both team titles while Western Carolina and UNC-Grennsboro rounded out the podium team positions.
Andrew McGinnis was the top finisher for Samford as he came in 16th place just one second ahead of William Jordan who came in a spot behind his Bulldog junior teammate. David Brown was the third Samford runner to cross the line, 24th overall, while freshmen Arthur Langley and Stephen Jones rounded out the counted scores in 34th and 35th. William Murray finished middle of the pack for the Dogs in 44th while Caleb Scheffler came in 58th and Jack Harchelroad finished 69th in the 75-man field.
"Today was all about competition and placement," said head cross country coach Wes Penberthy. "Both teams battled and competed. I am really proud of the effort and the direction of the cross-country program going forward."
Both teams will return to action on Nov. 15 when they head to Tallahassee, Fla. for the NCAA South Region meet.
