BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford football team will step out of Southern Conference play to host former Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pete Hanna Stadium.

Samford has a record of 3-5 overall and 2-3 in Southern Conference play after a 17-13 loss to Wofford last week. Tennessee Tech is currently 4-5 overall and 4-2 in the Big South-OVC Football Conference. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 52-10 win over Lindenwood.

Samford and Tennessee Tech have met 25 previous times, with Samford holding a 14-11 series lead. The teams last met in 2022, with Samford earning a 33-28 win in Cookeville, Tennessee. Samford and Tennessee Tech were co-members of the Ohio Valley Conference from 2003 until Samford moved to the Southern Conference in 2008. The first meeting in the series came in 1934, with Samford taking a 26-0 road win.
 
HATCHER'S OFFENSES PRODUCE
Through the last nine-plus seasons, Samford head coach Chris Hatcher's offenses have averaged more points than under any other head coach in program history. Entering the week, Hatcher's teams have averaged 33.28 points per game, ahead of Bobby Bowden's 28.57 average. Terry Bowden (1987-1992) averaged 27.92 points per game during his tenure while Bill Gray (2001-06 / 25.68) and Pat Sullivan (2007-14 / 25.50) round out the top five.
 
PUTTING UP POINTS
Over the last nine-plus seasons under head coach Chris Hatcher, the Samford offense has scored at least 30 points 51 times. The unit has put up at least 40 points 29 times, and at least 50 points a total of 15 times.
 
QUICK STRIKES
In the nine-plus seasons under head coach Chris Hatcher, Samford has made a habit of quick scoring drives. In Hatcher's time at Samford, the Bulldogs have had 204 scoring drives that lasted two minutes or less and 96 that have lasted one minute or less.
 
SPREADING THE BALL AROUND
So far this season, a total of 16 different Samford players have caught at least one pass. Brendan Jenkins leads the group with 30 receptions for 407 yards and two touchdowns. E. Jai Mason leads the squad in touchdown receptions with five.
 
SAMFORD AT PETE HANNA STADIUM
Samford has an all-time record of 188-86-4 in games played at Pete Hanna Stadium. This season, Samford has six home games on its schedule, with the Bulldogs holding a 3-1 record in those games. Last season, Samford posted a record of 4-2 in home games. In nine-plus seasons under head coach Chris Hatcher, Samford has a record of 38-14 when playing at home.
 
SAMFORD AGAINST TENNESSEE TEAMS
Samford has an all-time record of 92-90-9 against teams from the
state of Tennessee, including a mark of 14-11 against Saturday's
opponent, Tennessee Tech. Against the current members of the Big South-OVC Football Conference, Samford has an all-time record of 46-27-1, including a mark of 14-11 against Tennessee Tech. Samford was a member of the OVC from 2003 to 2008. Samford has played the following Big South-OVC teams: Charleston Southern (2-0), Eastern Illinois (1-4), Gardner-Webb (6-2), Southeast Missouri (5-3), Tennessee State (2-3), Tennessee Tech (14-11) and UT Martin (16-4-1).

Samford has an all-time record of 4-6 in games played on Nov. 9. The last time the Bulldogs played on Nov. 9 was in 2019, in a 35-27 loss to Chattanooga. Samford and Tennessee Tech have played on the date twice, in both 2000 and 2002, with Tennessee Tech winning both meetings.
