FORT WORTH, Texas. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 103-64 decision at 12th-ranked TCU Tuesday evening at Schollmaier Arena.
With the loss, Samford fell to 4-9 on the season. TCU improved its season record to 11-1 with the win.
Samford was led in the loss by Sadie Stetson with 13 points. Emily Bowman and Claire Johnson added 10 points each for the Bulldogs.
For TCU, Madison Conner led all scorers with 33 points. Hailey Van Lith scored 15 points for the Horned Frogs.
Samford took an early 3-0 lead on a three-pointer by Stetson with 8:44 to go in the first quarter. After TCU came back to take the lead, a layup by Alyssa Tarpley gave the Bulldogs a 9-8 lead at the 4:36 mark in the first period. With Samford leading, 12-11, TCU went on a 9-2 run to take a 20-14 lead with 1:46 to go in the opening quarter. TCU held a 27-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.
TCU opened up a 16-point lead at 36-20 with 7:16 to go in the second quarter after a pair of free throws by Deasia Merrill. With TCU leading, 44-29, the Horned Frogs closed the half with an 11-2 run to take a 55-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.
TCU pushed its lead to 27 points at 66-39 with 6:05 left in the third quarter following a three-pointer by Aaliyah Roberson. The Horned Frogs led, 81-48 at the end of the third period.
The Horned Frogs led by as many as 44 points in the fourth quarter at 96-52. TCU finished with the 103-64 win.
Samford will return home to take on the Florida A&M Rattlers Friday evening. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
