CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford men's tennis team earned its eighth-straight win with a 4-3 victory at Chattanooga Friday afternoon.
With the win, Samford improved its season record to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in SoCon play. Chattanooga fell to 7-11 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Chattanooga took the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
Samford won the first two singles matches, winning on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts to take a 2-1 lead. At No. 3,
Darcy Nicholls defeated Ryan Mudre, 6-3, 6-2. On the No. 4 court,
Maksim Bogdanovich defeated Cortland Grove, 6-0, 7-5. Chattanooga then won at No. 2 singles to knot the score at 2-2.
Then, at No. 5 singles,
Santiago Arredondo earned a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 win over Kristof Kincses for a 3-2 Samford lead. Samford wrapped up the win at No. 6 singles where
Will Gray defeated Ethan Carr, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 to give Samford a 4-2 advantage. Chattanooga then won at No. 1 singles to make the final score 4-3.
Next up for Samford, the Bulldogs will play at Jacksonville State on Sunday, March 24. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start from Jacksonville, Ala.
