SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford head coach Bucky McMillan was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year, and three of his players earned postseason honors when the SoCon released its postseason men's basketball awards Wednesday afternoon.
 
In addition to McMillan's honor, Achor Achor was named first team All-SoCon. Rylan Jones was named the SoCon's Newcomer of the Year, and he was named third team All-SoCon. A.J. Staton-McCray joined Jones on the third team All-SoCon squad, and he was named to the All-Defensive team as well.
 
This marks the third-straight year McMillan has been named the SoCon Coach of the Year, as he received the honor from the media the previous two seasons. This season, McMillan has led the Bulldogs to a school-record 26 wins, and the team won its first-ever outright SoCon regular-season title.
 
This season, Achor is averaging 15.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. He ranks third in the SoCon in field goal percentage (.591) and blocked shots per game (1.7). This season, he has scored in double figures 22 times, including a career-high 35 points in a win at Western Carolina.
 
Jones leads the SoCon and ranks sixth in the nation in assist to turnover ratio at 3.56. He also ranks third in the league in assists per game, averaging 4.9 per contest. Jones has had at least five assists in a game 16 times this season.
 
Staton-McCray is second on the team in both scoring at 12.6 points per game and in rebounds, pulling down 4.9 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures 18 times this season, including a career-high 29 points in the team's home court win over Chattanooga.
 
Samford enters this week's SoCon Tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Bulldogs will open play in the tournament by taking on either Mercer or The Citadel on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT in Asheville, N.C.
