CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The second-seeded Samford men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament with a 4-1 win over seventh-seeded The Citadel Thursday evening at The Champions Club.
 
With the win, Samford improved its record to 14-7 and the Bulldogs will play in Friday's semifinal round against Furman. The Citadel ended its season with a record of 8-22.
 
In doubles, Samford won at No. 1 and No. 2 to take the first point of the match. At No. 1, Maxwell Giddens and Sandeep Mohandoss defeated Hayden Shoemake and S. Kamieniecki, 6-3. On the No. 2 doubles court, Santiago Arredondo and J.B. Pickard defeated Ted Bagwell and Teo Cariov, 6-4.
 
In singles, Mohandoss defeated Kamieniecki, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 2 position, to give Samford a 2-0 lead. At No. 5, Pickard defeated Luke Robins, 6-2, 6-1, to make the score 3-0. After The Citadel picked up a win at No. 3 singles, Samford clinched the 4-1 win when Arredondo earned a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Bagwell.
 
Friday's semifinal match against Furman has been moved back to a 2:30 p.m. (CT) start due to expected inclement weather.
