Bulldogs Head To Auburn For Midweek Action On Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – To close out a four-game road swing and to open the month of April, the Samford softball team is set to head southbound on U.S. Highway 280 for a midweek contest with the Auburn Tigers on Wednesday.

The in-state showdown is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch and will be streamed on SEC Network+. Samford's game notes can be found here

Samford heads to The Plains with an overall record of 9-24 after taking two of three from the Wofford Terriers over the Easter weekend.

Auburn sits at 16-11-1 on the year after downing the fourth-rank Tennessee Volunteers in the weekend finale.

Wednesday marks the 21st meeting all-time between the Bulldogs and the Tigers, but it will be the first contest played in Auburn since 2015. Overall, the Tigers lead the all-time series 15-5 and have won nine straight games dating back to 2003.

Entering the midweek contest with Auburn, Samford is 7-95 all-time against teams from the SEC with the last Bulldog victory coming against Ole Miss last season.

On the year, the Bulldogs are 1-5 in midweek contests and 3-8 against teams that call Alabama home.

Offensively, the Bulldogs are paced at the top of the lineup by the junior duo of Mckayla Cothran and Sarah Squillace. Cothran leads Samford in batting average with a .336 mark, while Squillace is slashing .308.

The heart of the order features one of the best young hitters in the conference as Katie Campbell leads the team with nine home runs and 31 RBIs. Grier Bruce ranks second on the squad with three homers and 18 RBIs while Logan Champion has a pair of triples to pace the Bulldogs in that category.

On the national stage, Campbell ranks top 100 in hit-by-pitches (7/55th), hit-by-pitches per game (0.22/79th), home runs (9/51st), home runs per game (0.28/62nd), RBIs (31/86th) and RBIs per game (0.97/89th).

In the circle, Jordyn Partain has become the leader of the Bulldog pitching staff tossing a Southern Conference-high 93 innings with a league-best nine complete games. Partain also leads the staff with a team-best 4.14 ERA.
