Bulldog Softball Secures Series Victory With Win Over ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Following a doubleheader split on Saturday, the Samford softball team toppled the ETSU Buccaneers by a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 16-27 on the year and 9-6 in Southern Conference play. Sunday's win also marks a third-straight series win for Samford. ETSU will enter the final two weeks of the regular season with records of 10-29 and 4-11.

In the circle, Jordyn Partain picked up her team-best ninth win of the season on Sunday. The junior only allowed a run on 10 hits as she picked up her 13th complete game of the season.

Offensively, the Bulldogs were paced by the duo of McKayla Cothran and Grier Bruce. Cothran went 3-for-4 and scored a run while Bruce provided a pivotal two-run single in the bottom of the fifth.

The series finale proved to be a pitcher's duel in the early going as neither team could scratch across a run for the first four innings.

That all changed in the top of the fifth when Bruce slapped a two-out single to center field that plated Cothran and Sarah Squillace to give Samford a 2-0 lead heading into the latter stages of the contest.

After working out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth, Shannon Weems provided some much-needed insurance in the sixth with a sacrifice fly that scored to Olivia Shaw to make it 3-0.

Down to their final three outs, ETSU scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh before Partain slammed the door shut to finalize the series win.

UP NEXT
Samford returns home on Wednesday to open the final homestand of the 2024 season by hosting Mississippi State at 5 p.m. CT. The last home midweek of the year will be streamed on ESPN+.
