HERMITAGE, Tenn. – The Samford men's golf team tied for first at the Big Blue Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee State University, Monday and Tuesday at Hermitage Golf Club.
Samford finished with a three-round score of 846 (281-287-278), tying the Bulldogs with Belmont for first place in the 13-team field. Belmont won the tie breaker, which goes to the lowest third-round score.
"I'm proud of how we competed," Samford head coach
Al DelGreco said. "We got off to a slow start today, but everyone battled. We made up nine shots over the final 12 holes. We've talked about patience and attitude a lot this year, and today was a great example."
Samford's playing five was led by
Davis Woodliff with a final score of 210 (68-75-67), tying for sixth place in the 86-player field.
Matthew Smith tied for 10
th with a three-round total score of 212 (70-72-70).
Taylor Kuehn tied for 15
th at 213 (73-70-70), while
Andrew Sullivan (75-70-71) and
Damin Strydom (70-75-71) both tied for 21
st with identical scores of 216.
Playing as individuals from Samford, with their score not counting towards the team total, were
Nolen Wolfe (T-31: 74-73-72—219),
Craig Sanders (T-45: 76-76-72—224) and
Brian Boles (T-57: 77-73-77).
Samford will next play in the Wofford Intercollegiate, April 15-16, in Spartanburg, S.C.
