Nicastro Wraps Up Freshman Season At NCAA Regional

AUBURN, Ala. – Samford freshman Gabi Nicastro finished in a tie for 25th at the NCAA Auburn Regional, held Monday through Wednesday at the Auburn University Club (Par 72, 6,456 yards).
Nicastro finished with a three-round score of 227 (75-74-78) to tie for 25th in the 66-player field, and she was fourth among individuals not on participating teams. The top five teams and the top individual from each regional advance to the NCAA Championships.
"Gabi had a great freshman season," Samford head coach Joe Davidson said. "Being selected as an individual to play in the NCAA Regional as a freshman is pretty special. This is a great foundation for where we're headed in the future. I look forward to seeing how she grows during her time at Samford."
The NCAA Regional wraps up an impressive freshman season for Nicastro. She made an immediate impact on the women's golf program this season. She led the team and ranked second in the conference in stroke average, and she earned two tournament wins in her first collegiate season. She posted an overall record of 602-32-9 this season.
Nicastro led Samford to a second-place finish at the SoCon Championship, the best finish for the program since joining the league in 2008. After the SoCon Championship, she was named the SoCon's Freshman of the Year, and was selected for the All-SoCon and All-Freshman teams.
