BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Home games with Notre Dame, Auburn and Ole Miss highlight the Samford soccer team's 2024 schedule, released by head coach Todd Yelton Wednesday afternoon.
Â
"We are excited about our 2024 schedule," Yelton said. "It's another demanding slate that we are going to play. In the non-conference, we are playing a lot of really good teams. We're super excited to be able to welcome the likes of Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Auburn here. Those should be some exciting matches for the home crowd to see."
Â
Yelton said, in addition to the tough out of conference schedule, he thinks this will be one of the toughest years ever in the Southern Conference.
Â
"The SoCon schedule is once again a really good slate with some good coaches," Yelton said. "I think it is probably going to be the most demanding set of teams in the SoCon that I've seen in a while. Last year, our league finished 13th in the RPI, and that means that this group is winning a lot of games."
Â
Samford will host South Alabama in an exhibition game on Aug. 6, and will play a second exhibition contest at Jacksonville State on Aug. 11. The Bulldogs will open the regular season with four-straight home games. Samford will welcome Tennessee Tech (Aug. 15), Notre Dame (Aug. 18), UAB (Aug. 22) and Troy (Aug. 25) to Shauna Yelton Field in that span. The matchup with Notre Dame will mark the first time Samford has ever taken on the Fighting Irish in soccer.
Â
Samford will go on the road for the first time in the regular season when the Bulldogs play at Army on Aug. 28. The Bulldogs will then host Auburn (Sept. 5) and Ole Miss (Sept. 8), before playing at Georgia (Sept. 12). Samford will wrap up its nonconference scheduled with a home game against Georgia Southern on Sept. 15.
Â
Samford will open Southern Conference play with back-to-back road contests at Western Carolina (Sept. 19) and Chattanooga (Sept. 22). Samford will then host Wofford on Sept. 27 for the team's first home SoCon game of the season.
Â
The Bulldogs will then play at The Citadel (Oct. 3) before hosting Furman (Oct. 6). After travelling to VMI (Oct. 11), Samford will host Mercer (Oct. 17). Samford will play at ETSU (Oct. 20) and then will wrap up the regular season with a home game against UNC Greensboro (Oct. 27).
Â
The SoCon Tournament will again be hosted at campus sites, with the first round set for Oct. 29. The quarterfinals will be held Nov. 1, with the semifinals scheduled for Nov. 3. The SoCon Tournament championship game will be held either Nov. 9 or 10.
