BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to 15^th-ranked Notre Dame Sunday evening at Shauna Yelton Field.
 
With the loss, Samford fell to 1-1 on the young season. Notre Dame improved to 1-1 with the victory.
 
The Fighting Irish was led by Izzy Engle with three goals in the victory. Ellie Ospeck, Abby Mills and Grace Restovich added a goal each for Notre Dame. Fighting Irish goalkeeper Atlee Olofson playing the entire 90 minutes in goal for Notre Dame.
 
For Samford, Layton Glisson and Martha Bishop tallied three shots each. Samford played three goalkeepers in the game, with Mia Krusinski, Peyton Hull and Emma Donley all seeing time in goal.
 
Notre Dame got the scoring started when Ospeck netted the first goal of the game in the 21^st minute, assisted by Lily Joseph. The score remained the same throughout the remainder of the first half. Mills made the score 2-0 when she scored off an assist from Restovich in the 55th minute.
 
Engle scored the first of her three goals in the 74^th minute for a 3-0 Irish lead. Engle followed that up with a goal assisted by Annabelle Chukwu in the 75^th minute to make the score 4-0. Restovich netted her goal off an assist from Morgan Roy in the 82^nd minute for a 5-0 lead. Engle added her final goal in the 84^th minute off an assist from Charlie Codd to make the final score 6-0.
 
Samford will remain at home to host cross-town rival UAB on Thursday, Aug. 22. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start and admission is free.
