CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford soccer team picked up its first Southern Conference win of the 2024 season with a 1-0 victory at Chattanooga Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium.
With the win, Samford improved its season record to 4-6-1 overall and 1-1 in Southern Conference play. Chattanooga dropped its mark to 2-5-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
For Samford in the match,
Ella Simpson netted her second goal of the season to lead Samford to the win.
Whitaker Buchanan dished out her second assist of the season as well.
Sam De Luca and
Hanna Rae Himes had a team-high two shots each for Samford.
Peyton Hull delivered her first solo shutout of the season in goal, saving two shots without allowing a goal.
For the game, each team had seven shots. Samford had four shots on goal, to two for Chattanooga. The Mocs had five corner kicks to four for the Bulldogs.
Chattanooga was led by Caroline Richvalsky with three shots. Caroline Ekern played in goal for the Mocs, saving three shots and allowing one goal.
Samford's Simpson scored the game's lone goal on a header off a corner kick from Buchanan in the 14
th minute to give Samford the 1-0 victory.
Samford will return home to play host to the Wofford Terriers on Friday, Sept. 27. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from Shauna Yelton Field. The game will be Samford's annual Shauna's House game.
