BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to 13
th-ranked Auburn Thursday evening at Shauna Yelton Field. The game was played in front of a capacity crowd of 1,053.
With the loss, Samford falls to 2-3-1 on the season. Auburn improved to 6-0 with the win.
Auburn's Shelby Sallee had two goals and one assist to lead the Tigers in the win. Olivia Woodson also scored two goals, while Lily Borders added one goal.
For Samford,
Whitaker Buchanan and
Annessa Shively had one shot each.
Salle scored the first goal of the match in the sixth minute to give Auburn a 1-0 lead. Woodson then added a goal in the 10
th minute and Borders scored in the 41st minute as Auburn took a 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Sallee scored her second goal in the 47th minute for a 4-0 Tiger lead. Woodson netted her second goal in the 54
th minute to give Auburn the 5-0 win.
Samford will play host to the Ole Miss Rebels Sunday at 1 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. Admission to the game is free.
