BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss forward Kayla Keefer scored a goal in the final minute of the game to lift the Rebels' soccer team to a 2-1 win at Samford Sunday afternoon at Shauna Yelton Field.
With the loss, Samford fell to 2-4-1 on the season. Ole Miss improved its season record to 4-3 with the victory.
For Samford,
Sam De Luca scored her first Samford goal, and she led the team with three shots.
Layton Glisson tallied two shots in the game for Samford.
Peyton Hull played the full 90 minutes in goal for Samford, saving a career-high six shots and allowing two goals.
Ole Miss was led by Keefer with a goal and an assist. Grace Freeman also netted a goal for the Rebels. Shu Ohba played the full game in goal for Ole Miss, saving two shots and allowing one goal.
The teams played through the first half in a scoreless tie. Ole Miss got the scoring started when Freeman scored off assists from Keefer and Kelly Brady in the 54th minute for a 1-0 Rebel lead. Samford knotted the score in the 69
th minute when De Luca scored off an assist from Glisson for a 1-1 score. The winning goal was scored in the 90th minute when Keefer scored off an assist from Brenlin Mullaney for the 2-1 Ole Miss win.
Samford will play at Georgia on Thursday, Sept. 12. The game is set for a 4:30 p.m. (CT) start from Athens, Ga.
