BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, 16-25) match against Furman Thursday evening in The Pete Hanna Center.
With the loss, Samford fell to 3-6 in league play and 8-12 overall. Furman improved its overall record to 15-6 and league record to 6-3 with the win.
Samford was led in the loss by
Kaleigh Meritt with 15 kills and seven digs.
For Furman, Ashley Stein had 11 kills and six digs.
In the first set, the Paladins jumped out to a quick 10-6 lead on the Bulldogs. Bulldogs fought back late to make the set close by going on a 4-0 run to make the set, 24-22. This run was helped by 2 service aces from
Shea Bruntmyer, but ultimately Furman took the first set, 25-22.
During set two, Furman went on a 9-0 run late to deepen their lead and eventually give them the set, 25-12. Furman went on to take set three, 25-16 as well giving them the match 3-0.
Samford will return to The Pete Hanna Center on Friday, Oct. 24 to take on UNCG. The match is set for a 6:30 p.m. start and will be streamed on ESPN+.
