GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT TEXAS A&M (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford football team will travel to College Station, Texas, to take on the third-ranked Texas A&M Aggies Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kyle Field.
Samford enters the game with a record of 1-10 overall and 1-7 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 30-16 loss at Austin Peay last week. Texas A&M is currently 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the SEC. The Aggies earned a 31-30 win over South Carolina last week. The game can be seen live on SECN+.
Samford and Texas A&M are meeting for the first time ever in football.
Last week, Samford's fourth-quarter comeback fell short in a 30-16 loss at Austin Peay. For Samford in the loss,
Brady Stober completed 29-of-41 passes for 266 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Stober also had one rushing touchdown.
Calvin Jones caught 10 passes for 117 yards, while
Sam Pickett III had nine catches for 70 yards.
Preston Bird caught three passes for 46 yards and one touchdown. Defensively for Samford,
Carson Sloan had seven tackles.
Jaden Mosley followed with six tackles and one fumble recovery.
Luke Wattenbarger had an interception he returned 30 yards.
This marks the 15th-straight fall season that Samford has played a member of either the SEC or the ACC. In that stretch, the Bulldogs have taken on Florida (2024, 2021), Auburn (2023, 2019, 2014, 2011), Georgia (2022, 2017), Florida State (2018, 2010), Mississippi State (2016), Louisville (2015), Arkansas (2013) and Kentucky (2012).
This also marks the second trip to the state of Texas for Samford this season. On Sept. 13, the Bulldogs traveled to Waco to take on Baylor, falling to the Bears by a score of 42-7.
SAMFORD ON THE ROAD
Samford has seven road games on the 2025 schedule and the
Bulldogs are currently 1-5 in those contests. Last season, Samford
was 1-4 on the road.
SAMFORD AGAINST TEXAS TEAMS
Samford has an all-time record of 0-7 against teams from the state of Texas. Samford has played the following Texas teams: Baylor (0-3), North Texas (0-1), Stephen F. Austin (0-2) and TCU (0-1). All games except for the 1995 meeting with Stephen F. Austin have been played on the road. This marks the second time Samford has played in the Lonestar State this season as the Bulldogs played at Baylor on Sept. 13, falling by a score of 42-7.
SAMFORD AGAINST SEC TEAMS
Samford has an all-time record of 2-82-3 against the current members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), though Saturday's game is the program's first-ever meeting with Texas A&M. Samford has played the following SEC teams: Alabama (0-20-1), Arkansas (0-1), Auburn (0-29-1), Florida (0-4), Georgia (0-3), Kentucky (0-1), LSU (0-1), Ole Miss (1-2), Mississippi State (1-17-1), Tennessee (0-2) and Vanderbilt (0-2).
ON THIS DATE
Samford has an all-time record of 3-7-1 in games played on Nov. 22. The last time Samford played a game on the date was in 2014 in a 31-7 loss at Auburn. The first time Samford played on Nov. 22 was in 1902, Samford's first year of football, falling to Mississippi State at West End Park, 26-0.

Jaden Mosley currently ranks second in the Southern Conference in tackles after the first 11 games of the season. Through the first 11 games, he has a total of 97 tackles, the second-highest total in the league. His 8.8 tackles per game average is also second in the SoCon.
SAMFORD TRIO AMONG THE BEST
Samford wide receivers
Calvin Jones,
Preston Bird and
Jaden Gibson are all ranked in the top 10 in the Southern Conference in receptions. Jones is tied for second in the Southern Conference with 59 receptions on the season. Bird ranks sixth in the league with 52 catches, while Gibson is tied for ninth with 44 catches on the year.
WATTENBARGER GETS FIRST PICK
Transfer senior safety
Luke Wattenbarger came up with his first interception as a Bulldog in last week's game at Austin Peay. In the fourth quarter, with Samford trailing by a score of 27-3, Wattenbarger picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards to the Austin Peay one-yard-line, nearly scoring Samford's first defensive touchdown of the season. The Bulldog offense scored one play later to cut the lead to 27-9.
