Bulldogs Finish Cancun Challenge With A Defeat to Utah Valley

CANCUN, Mexico - The Samford men's basketball team finished play tonight at the Cancun Challenge against Utah Valley. Down multiple starters for the second-straight night, the Bulldogs were outplayed throughout the game as they fell 89-45. Samford's record falls to 4-5 on the season while the Wolverines move to 5-2.

The Bulldogs entered the night without starting point guard Keaton Norris and Dylan Faulkner due to injury, but they did welcome back Jadin Booth, who gave it a go after missing last night's game against Georgia State. Samford turned to a small-ball starting lineup, but they were out of rhythm on both ends of the floor, seemingly from the jump. They held their own on the glass, but the Wolverines dominated in the paint, where they scored 30 of their 42 first-half points.

Offensively, the Dogs shot just 21 percent from the floor, 6-of-29, and went 2-of-13 from three. The Bulldogs have taken care of the ball throughout the season, but had nine turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play and a season-high 16 for the night. Just four Bulldogs scored in the half, led by Isaiah Campbell-Finch, who had five points as UVU led 42-14 at halftime.

The offensive production was improved in the second half, but the Bulldogs remained inefficient on the night, shooting 11-of-38 overall and 4-of-14 from three. Campbell-Finch finished the night with a team-high 12 points, and Cade Norris was the other Bulldog in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Samford was outscored 47-31 in the second half of play as the Wolverines shot 57 percent from the field on the night.

The Bulldogs head home and have a small break in their schedule before they return to action on Dec. 5. Samford will once again be back out on the road as they face VCU, who entered tonight with a 4-2 record but will play two more games before they host the Bulldogs.
