STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 112-54 decision at Mississippi State Sunday afternoon at Humphrey Coliseum.
With the loss, Samford fell to 6-10 on the season. Mississippi State improved its record to 13-1 with the win.
Samford was led in the loss by
Kaylee Yarbrough with 14 points.
Aubrey Blankenship and
Briana Rivera had nine points each for Samford.
Martha Bishop led the team in rebounds with five, while
Jada Knight had a team-high four assists.
For Mississippi State, Favour Nwaedozi led the way with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Nwaedozi was one of four Mississippi State players to record double-doubles in the game.
Mississippi State raced out to an early 14-4 lead with 5:57 to go in the first quarter following a free throw by Nwaedozi. MSU pushed the lead to 15 points at 25-10 with 1:10 to go in the first after a jumper by Chandler Prater. Two late Knight free throws cut the lead to 25-12 at the end of the first period.
In the second quarter, Mississippi State pushed its lead to as many as 28 points at 51-23. The home Bulldogs took a 51-26 lead into halftime following a late three-pointer by Samford's
Avary Brewer.
MSU stretched its lead to as many as 50 points in the third quarter and held an 89-41 lead at the end of the period. Mississippi State finished the fourth quarter with a 112-54 win.
Next up, Samford will play host to Fisk on Friday, Jan. 2. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
